Catering for the gatherings in between

Life is full of reasons to get people together that aren't weddings or birthdays. A hog roast private party suits all of them: the food is generous, the atmosphere is sociable and nobody in the family has to spend the day cooking.

We handle the whole thing, from cooking on site to serving and clearing our area at the end. The service adapts to the occasion, so a lively garden party gets a very different feel from a quiet gathering after a funeral. What stays the same is the care we put into getting the food right and fitting in around you.

Planning a birthday? Our dedicated birthday party catering page covers milestone birthdays in detail.

House & garden parties

Summer get-togethers, housewarmings and drinks with friends. A roast or grill on the lawn and a counter by the patio.

Christenings & naming days

Family-friendly food after the service, at home or in a hall. Simple options for children and a gentle serving pace.

Reunions

School, university, regimental or family reunions where people want to talk, not queue. A roll service keeps everyone mingling.

Celebrations of life

Calm, respectful catering for wakes and memorial gatherings, planned around the family's wishes.

House parties and garden parties

The most common private party we cater for is at someone's home. It might be a garden party for a summer weekend, a housewarming, or a gathering that's been talked about for months. The appeal is obvious: guests get proper hot food, the host gets to join in, and the kitchen stays clean.

We need a level spot for the cooking and serving area, a way in from the road and ideally somewhere under cover. We don't need your kitchen or your oven. For a practical run-through of everything worth arranging, our outdoor catering checklist is a useful read.

Handy for home parties

  • We're self-contained for cooking
  • A gazebo-sized space is usually enough
  • Tell us about steps, gates and narrow paths
  • We take our cooking waste with us

Engagements, christenings and family milestones

Engagement parties are often a first chance to bring two families together. A hog roast or BBQ keeps the mood informal and gives everyone a natural reason to mix. If you're planning the wedding too, it's a good way to see how our food and team work before committing.

Christenings and naming days usually mean a family crowd with plenty of children. We keep the menu approachable, add simple options for younger guests, and time service so it fits neatly after the ceremony. Village halls and church halls work well, as do gardens.

Reunions bring together people who may not have seen each other in years. Service that lets guests eat standing or wander with a roll in hand helps conversations flow, and we're happy to serve over a longer window as people arrive.

Wakes and celebrations of life

Families increasingly choose to mark a life with a gathering that feels like the person they're remembering, and for some that means a hog roast or a BBQ in the garden rather than sandwiches in a function room. We understand that these events are arranged quickly and at a difficult time.

We'll keep our questions simple, work around short notice where we can, and serve quietly and respectfully. If there's a favourite dish or a particular way the family would like things done, tell us and we'll do our best to accommodate it. Where the venue or timing is still being decided, we can hold provisional details while you make arrangements.

What's included

  • A menu built around your guests, occasion and numbers
  • Cooking on site, carving and serving by our own staff
  • Salads, sides, breads, stuffing and sauces
  • Vegetarian and vegan options, cooked and served separately on request
  • Dish labels and a conversation about allergies before the day
  • Clearing our area and removing our equipment at the end

Dietary needs and allergies

Every private party includes a mix of diets. We plan vegetarian and vegan mains properly, label every dish and discuss allergies with you in advance. Our kitchens handle a range of allergens, so we can't guarantee any dish is free from traces, but we'll give you clear information to share with your guests.

If you're unsure what to serve alongside the main roast, our guide to hog roast side dishes has plenty of ideas.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the event

Send the date, postcode, rough guest numbers and the kind of food you have in mind. A few lines is plenty to start.

  2. Get a tailored quote

We'll suggest a menu, service style and timings that suit the event, and send a clear written quote. Tweak it as much as you like.

  3. Confirm the details

Final numbers, dietary requirements, access, parking and timings are agreed in writing ahead of the day, so there are no surprises.

  4. We cook, serve and clear

We arrive early, cook everything fresh on site, serve your guests from our counter, and leave the space clean and tidy.

Private party catering FAQs

Can you cater for a private party at our house?

Yes, most of our private parties are at home. We need a level area for cooking and serving, access from the road and ideally a covered spot. We don't need your kitchen.

Do you cater for christenings in church or village halls?

Yes. We can cook outside the hall and serve inside, or set up wherever the hall allows. Check with the hall about any rules on external caterers.

Can you help at short notice for a wake or memorial?

We'll always try. Get in touch as soon as you have a date and location and we'll let you know straight away what we can do.

Is a hog roast suitable for an engagement party?

It's a great fit: sociable, generous and relaxed. It's also a good way to try our food if you're considering us for your wedding catering.

What's the difference between this and your birthday party catering?

The service is the same; the occasions differ. Our birthday party catering page focuses on milestone birthdays, while this page covers other private gatherings.

Can guests serve themselves, or do you serve?

Our team carves and serves, which keeps portions fair and the counter moving. For some occasions, such as a buffet-style reunion, we can lay out sides for guests to help themselves.
